I Promise

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

I, Rebecca, do promise, on this the 30th day of March, that for the next week (7 days) I will do my Weight Watchers Flex Program PERFECTLY!!!!!! I will track all my food, every day, and also track my water. I will excersise 5 days and will do 80 sit-up/crunches for the next 5 days. If I make a major mistake, I will imidiately change my thoughts and continue on my progression forward, not backwards.

Sorry, but I haven’t been very honest with myself for the last 2 weeks and I’m tired of wasting my time and money. So I am making this promise to all of you in hopes that I will be responsible for my actions and report my progress at the end of 7 days. I know this journey is going to take a lot of work so I need to get to it! Thanks for being there.

My New Experiment

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

My exercise restrictions have been driving me crazy!  I am pretty much limited to a 30 min. walk at this point.  Strength training is okay as long as I am not putting pressure on my hip/back.  So I decided to spice up my workout.

Now I am spending more time lifting weights than doing cardio.  A first for me.  I have always read about how important weight training is but I have been so obsessed with burning calories from a sweat dripping cardio workout….and then maybe five minutes of curling dumbbells.    But the rule is, the more muscle you have the more fat you burn.  My gym has some GREAT lifting machines that pose no strain on my injury.  (Free weights are out of the question.)  I put together a daily workout plan and I am getting buff!

I walk for 15 min. to warm up and then hit the weights like a champ and then walk another 15 min. when I am done (six days a week).  My leg workouts are pretty wimpy because if I am not careful it can aggravate my hip, so I pretty much don’t use any weight and do really slow squats and lunges and then some great inner and outer thigh exercises that I learned from physical therapy.  But everything else is game on!
As for my diet (the hardest part) I am trying really hard to follow the WW core plan.  Basically, no flour or sugar, one serving of whole grains per day and only low-fat dairy products.  I have also discovered a GREAT protein powder (low calorie) that I mix in a smoothie after each workout.  It really helps me recover.
I have been at it for a few weeks now and my buff-stud husband says that I should start noticing a difference in a month or so.
I will show off my buffness at the sisters retreat.  =)  Push-up contest Ann?  Bring it.
As for weight loss I have lost two pounds since January.  Eight to go.

Dumping Fiber

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

Oh My Stinking Soul. I have had a horrible experience with Fiber. I think we might have to break up. Since Weight Watchers encourages high fiber foods, (lost 4.4 lbs last week), I thought I would try a new cereal that Costco had out as a display. It is a multi-grain, bran, mother-load fiber, great tasting cereal. I loved it and ate a lot of it. Well lets just say that gas at my house is cheap! That cereal made my stomach RUMBLE. Literally, it would girggle and grumble. In fact you know your gas is bad when the kids complain that the dog pooped in the house and you know it was your own farts. Come on ladies, you know what I mean. It’s bad when the kids complain. Come to think of it, I think I only lost a large amount of weight because of the amount of gas I lost and time spent on the toilet. Hey Rachel, want some more fiber to loosen Emma up? LADIES, this stuff is fierce!!! I finally realized what it was and didn’t eat it for a day and sure enough, the farts were gone. (in mean frogs) I mentioned this in WW tonight and they all laughed and said try Beano. Then I asked if they would go buy it for me. They said just tell the clerk you are buying it for your husband. Oh, and Dr. OZ says that my body will adjust to it. Soooo…..do I keep the Costco size box of cereal, or keep eating it in small amounts and risk the health and well being of my kids. Oh, I forgot to mention how hard it is to hold in your farts in a step class. Now that’s what I call a muscle strengthening excersise. Oh my. And one more funny thing, I can’t bring myself to fart in front of my husband so every time he was around I had to keep my cheeks squeezed tight. I must have looked like a fool! Enough already, Sara said that her rule of thumb is that if a food has more than 5 grams of fiber per serving, then it’s lethal. Hope my experience has helped someone!
